Impetus to Invent

Small work cells, small machines, BIG results. When you combine sensors, PLCs, poke-yoke principles, and a safety shield, you get the job done. When you do all of this in such a tiny footprint, you get it done in a BIG way. This customer puts a premium on space and demands their machines to be as eeincy wincey (can we say that on a business site?) as possible. Either way, it takes big ideas and big thinking to get such big results in a tiny package. If we can do this, imagine what we can do for you.

Problem Solved

Tiny footprint. Lots of tech.

Lessons Learned

On machines this small, cable routing can’t be an afterthought. It’s critical to always pay attention to cable routing in machine design.

What Was Unique

The retainer clip could be loaded accidentally in the wrong direction. A precision distance sensor ensured the part was always loaded properly, or the press would not work.

What Was Challenging

Surprisingly the safety shield had some kinks in it we had to iron out with respect to the warpage of the laser cut parts.
