Impetus to Invent

Imagine watching your employees cut terminals off a reel by hand and marking them with a sharpie to validate they are correctly oriented, then inserting them in a machine to be notched. Then you realize this was being done millions of times per year. Something had to be done! Enter the team at Invent Automation to remove ALL the labor and aggravation. Invent Automation created a simple machine to punch, mark, and validate that the terminal punches were proper. A few months after the idea to automate was had, problem solved!

Imagine an employee cutting metal parts endlessly. Automate that, and their dedication could be put to better, more profitable use!

Lessons Learned

With no PLC, some advanced sensors, and pneumatic logic, some old-school knowledge has to be dusted off and brought to the forefront. Sometimes it's not what you know, it's who you know.

What Was Unique

The system used a series of highly specialized, lesser-known pneumatic logic components to get a reciprocation action using only air.

What Was Challenging

Getting the electrical guys to see that not everything logic-based should be solved with a PLC. We kid (maybe), but the use of pneumatic logic is kind of a next-level engineering practice. Their use is great in fixtures. reciprocating motions and other weird places where electronics are not ideal or overkill.
