Impetus to Invent

The customer's environment only allowed for tools powered by air. Electricity was not an option. The goal was to develop a drill that would slide down the extrusion, clamp, and drill. Since the operator had to slide it from location to location, it had to weigh under 50 lbs. Invent Automation stepped up to the plate and applied its unique capabilities with pneumatic logic elements to make complex actions happen. These less commonly used components are great for the harshest environments, dangerous environments where sparks are not permitted, and shops where electrical trades are not present. Invent Automation has a long track record of making complex pneumatic systems for drills, fixtures, and control systems where innovation is a must and flawless execution is demanded.

Problem Solved

Portable lightweight drill that only uses air.

Lessons Learned

It’s always better to oversize your air drill motor.

What Was Unique

The lightweight portable package required for this drill was unique.

What Was Challenging

Fitting pneumatic sensors, logic elements, big solenoids, etc. in a tiny package was not easy.
